Riyadh, Doha, Kuwait: GCC Design Markets Beyond Dubai (2026 Guide)

By Gaëlle Lamirault · May 2026 · 7 min read

Dubai is still the GCC's design capital, but the centre of gravity is shifting. Riyadh has overtaken it for premium brand investment in the last 18 months. Doha continues to fund cultural and sporting brands at scale.

Kuwait City is quietly producing some of the most ambitious consumer brands in the region. Smart studios are diversifying.

Riyadh: scale, ambition, government-led demand

Riyadh's design market has expanded faster than any other GCC city since 2024. Vision 2030 has triggered a wave of brand creation across hospitality, entertainment, sports, and tourism — much of it backed by PIF or affiliated entities.

Budgets exceed Dubai's for comparable scope. Timelines are aggressive. The bar for Arabic-first design is the highest in the region.

Doha: cultural depth, sustained budgets

Qatar's investment in cultural brands — museums, sporting events, hospitality — produces consistent design demand at premium budgets.

The market is smaller than Riyadh's but more discerning. Cultural sensitivity matters more here than anywhere else in the GCC.

Kuwait City: emerging consumer brand power

Kuwait quietly produces some of the GCC's strongest consumer brands. Middle-class buying power is high, brand loyalty exists, and a generation of Kuwaiti founders studied design abroad and brought back European sensibilities.

F&B, fashion, and retail are particularly active.

Manama and Muscat: stable, lower-volume opportunities

Bahrain and Oman are smaller markets with lower volume but real opportunity for studios that build relationships.

Both governments are investing in tourism brands. Both have low competition compared to Dubai or Riyadh.

What this means for studios

If your design practice is 100% Dubai-focused, you are missing the majority of GCC design demand for the next 5 years.

The most resilient studios are building active client relationships in at least 3 GCC capitals.

Frequently asked

Which GCC city has the most design demand?
Riyadh has overtaken Dubai for top-end brand work since 2024, driven by Vision 2030 megaprojects. Dubai still leads for SMB and startup volume.
Is it possible to serve all GCC markets from Dubai?
Yes, with regular travel. Most GCC clients are comfortable with studios based in Dubai given direct flights and shared cultural context.
Do you need an office in each GCC capital?
No. Trust is built through relationships and quality, not real estate.
